Born This Way

On the back of her Chris Colfer obsession, my daughter and I watched the Glee concert movie the other day.

I love Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way‘ (it’s like a highly caffeinated wake-up call for anyone who feels weird), so I really enjoyed seeing the Glee version – with all the self-confessed Losers wearing their particular brand of weirdness emblazoned across their chests: ‘LIKES BOYS’, ‘FOUR EYES’, ‘OCD’, ‘NOSE’, ‘LEBANESE’, etc.

The movie’s concert footage was mixed with interviews with fans saying how Glee had changed their lives, made them accept – and even be proud of – who they are.

Here’s the official video if you want to see what I’m talking about… And if you’ve been Gleeking out for years, my apologies for being late to the party – I was busy watching Harry Potter.

Don’t be a drag, just be a queen
Whether you’re broke or evergreen
You’re black, white, beige, chola descent
You’re Lebanese, you’re Orient
Whether life’s disabilities
Left you outcast, bullied, or teased
Rejoice and love yourself today
‘Cause baby you were born this way

No matter gay, straight, or bi
Lesbian, transgendered life
I’m on the right track baby
I was born to survive
No matter black, white or beige
Chola or orient made
I’m on the right track baby
I was born to be brave

I’m beautiful in my way
‘Cause God makes no mistakes
I’m on the right track, baby I was born this way

Don’t hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you’re set
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way yeah.”
